I break a lot of sh!t...

So yea, at least I haven't broken anything else on my body in a while and I hope to keep that way, but here's my list from the weekend....

1 - was Zwifting the other night and suddenly something wasn't right - flat rear tire.
2 - go to change it the next day - snap...  there goes the shifter cable.
3 - Saturday get ready to go ride - snapped off the connector for my heart rate monitor strap.
4 - adding air to front tire of Cx bike for my fun ride - the valve stem thingy breaks off...  had to change the tire..  What in the world?  I was almost afraid go to ride....

Glad I did though because I ventured out to do one of my favorite routes - Cx bike through Carvins Cove - this is a combination of pavement, sidewalks (Hollins U), the dirt path from Hollins U to Birkdale, more pavement until finally arriving at the Happy Valley Fire Road.  OH MY was it nice today!  A few years back some doofus at the water authority added all this crappy, scrap gravel to the fire road and made it horrible, now someone has take a grader and shoved all that bad crap off.  This was a great discovery today and I hope they leave it just like this.  It is dirt and a bit of gravel but oh so nice to ride on.  I had a blast.  I had to stop at one point to take off my vest because I was hot.  I had to bushwhack around a huge downfallen tree that obscured the entire road, but knowing the area so well it was quite easy to cut through the woods to the next single track.  Back on the road and remembering someone mentioning that Little Bell had been rerouted, I chose to check it out  -  what a pleasant discovery!  It was fun!!!   It now bypasses the muddy mess and also the tree snag that caused me to break my hand a few years back.  As I was cruising through enjoying the trail, I nearly ran over a black snake.  Poor little thing, glad I avoided it.  Back on the fire road and soon to be road, my glute was starting to dislike the work I was making it due.  Consequently my quad and hamstring would soon join the rebellion.  Once I arrived at Rt311 for the most harrowing part of the ride, I decided to pull off and stretch a bit before beginning that hammer fest.

I was able to zip down the road without must trouble and soon found myself heading back home.  How is it the fun rides end so quickly!!!  I was so happy I did the ride, but sure was tiring!!!  I can't wait to do it again -maybe next weekend.

Sunday - breakfast and ride near home...  rain was predicted at 2pm and my legs were tired from yesterday so I didn't stray far from home.  I ended up riding to the airport, around the air traffic control tower, out and back around FedEx and UPS, to the mall and around the ring road a bit.  Back through the neighborhood home.  I spent gobs of time in my bike room straighten up stuff. I've been lazy and just dropping stuff when I get home.  Also took the rest of the stuff off the trainer bike for a good scrubbing.  Who knows when that was done last.  I suspect winter 2017 or spring 2018.  I scrubbed the cassette, the chain and took the derailleur pulleys off - took the broken shifter cable off.  Hopefully the new cable won't be long in coming and hopefully I can pull off the repair - either way the weather should be nicer soon and I can ride to work some and/or ride after work. I hate the basement when there's other options.

Great weekend all in all. - Friday was a grocery getting and errands during this COVID time.

I have some pictures, but I can't get them to the computer right now to share...  Will add if I think about it later.

Bye!  Have a good week, stay safe, stay home or isolated if you can.

Last Saturday: MTB on the GW and Roads again - Honestly it was fun - went to Kennedy Park again then meandered my way to Lick Run GW at Countryside Park. Kennedy Park is peaceful with several paved sidewalks that you can ride back and forth (up and down slightly). Last Sunday: Hiking on Mill Mountain - started on Ivy Road, went up the old road to Big Sunny (Car Trail) to the neighborhood, back down to Crystal Spring Trail - it was fun - the old road was tiring as it's all up hill.  Big Sunny was ok except I had forgot what a muddy mess it gets on the one spot under the power line and of course it's a steep little Pitch.  I made it carefully!  The trail itself weirded me out in a few places which is stupid because I have ridden it hundreds of times.  I guess my perspective is much different now.  Walking back down through the neighborhood wasn't too bad.  My quads tend to not like downhills, but we made it.  Crystal Spring is a mostly flat trail so ...

Day 4 of Head Cold from Hell

Things I wish for right now: warm weather no rain no illness to feel at least 85% for more than a week to go hiking to ride my bike I don't call in sick to work, but Thursday afternoon; I told my boss I wasn't coming on Friday.  I rested and watched a ton of basketball all day yesterday.  Today I feel more energetic, but my ear is stopped up now.  Typical for when I get colds.  It will probably be this way now for months.

Blue Ridge Marathon - Volunteer time...

Will post more later, but sharing what I posted on the BRM Facebook page. Gonna put this here and hope the individuals see it. To the lady with the past mastectomy running the colorful lymphedema sleeve - WAY TO GO! To the runner with the med port and I swear it looked like O2 - BRAVO! And to the man with the ACL brace who still has the hobbled gait- WAY TO GET IT DONE!!! It hit me as I stood there cheering you on that we may be injured, but we don't loose our spirit. Your fight and determination did not go unnoticed. I'm so impressed, and you have provided me a bit more motivation to continue working hard in my journey back from a hip fracture. SO IMPRESSED WITH EVERYONE TODAY, but those three particularly stood out to me.
