Labor Day Weekend

4-day weekend = 4 days of riding in a row.

Nothing was easy about these rides.  I miss my cardio.  I miss my ability to climb.  I am thrilled that I was able to ride 4 days in a row.  Haven't done that in a long time, plus after the work week last week, it was fantastic to not have to be there Friday and instead have a little fun.  The weather has almost been perfect.  Still a little too hot, but sunny days every day!!!!

Friday - drove and parked near the Blue Ridge Parkway - did a 17.5mile out and back kind of ride.

Saturday - 22.23 miles starting at home.  Kept running into obstructions to my ride, greenway closure due to a 5k race, a hill that I totally forgot about and ended up walking up half of it, and another road closure on the way home. Used parts of 3 different greenways.

Sunday - 22.26 miles starting at home again.  Went another direction this day - cut through a cemetary and a business park. Used another greenway and rode adjacent to a gravel one on this day.  This ride was a good route for the most part.

Monday - 13.93 - gravel ride (mountain bike) - total out and back on the fireroad at the Cove.  Passed many singletrack options, but decided to stick to the plan.  Ended up being a fantastic ride.  I took my iPod along so I got to enjoy my tunes and sang along a few times.

Back to work tomorrow.  Meh!  There's a lot going on and I will be busy, so hopefully the days go by quickly!  Next Saturday I plan to park at the New River Valley Mall and ride the Huckleberry Trail to the football game at Virginia Tech - hopefully no one steals my bike during the game.  I've scoped out Google map view and there looks like a bike rack right at the police station so I will look to lock it there first.  I've looked forward to try this adventure for over a year now!  I'll be sure to take some pictures along the way.

Meanwhile, here's a couple from the weekend.

Friday - BRP, my bike and hayyyyy!

Monday - ROJO!

Last Saturday: MTB on the GW and Roads again - Honestly it was fun - went to Kennedy Park again then meandered my way to Lick Run GW at Countryside Park. Kennedy Park is peaceful with several paved sidewalks that you can ride back and forth (up and down slightly). Last Sunday: Hiking on Mill Mountain - started on Ivy Road, went up the old road to Big Sunny (Car Trail) to the neighborhood, back down to Crystal Spring Trail - it was fun - the old road was tiring as it's all up hill.  Big Sunny was ok except I had forgot what a muddy mess it gets on the one spot under the power line and of course it's a steep little Pitch.  I made it carefully!  The trail itself weirded me out in a few places which is stupid because I have ridden it hundreds of times.  I guess my perspective is much different now.  Walking back down through the neighborhood wasn't too bad.  My quads tend to not like downhills, but we made it.  Crystal Spring is a mostly flat trail so ...

Day 4 of Head Cold from Hell

Things I wish for right now: warm weather no rain no illness to feel at least 85% for more than a week to go hiking to ride my bike I don't call in sick to work, but Thursday afternoon; I told my boss I wasn't coming on Friday.  I rested and watched a ton of basketball all day yesterday.  Today I feel more energetic, but my ear is stopped up now.  Typical for when I get colds.  It will probably be this way now for months.

Blue Ridge Marathon - Volunteer time...

Will post more later, but sharing what I posted on the BRM Facebook page. Gonna put this here and hope the individuals see it. To the lady with the past mastectomy running the colorful lymphedema sleeve - WAY TO GO! To the runner with the med port and I swear it looked like O2 - BRAVO! And to the man with the ACL brace who still has the hobbled gait- WAY TO GET IT DONE!!! It hit me as I stood there cheering you on that we may be injured, but we don't loose our spirit. Your fight and determination did not go unnoticed. I'm so impressed, and you have provided me a bit more motivation to continue working hard in my journey back from a hip fracture. SO IMPRESSED WITH EVERYONE TODAY, but those three particularly stood out to me.
