So I went back for more Chestnut

Tuesday night found me back on the Chestnut Ridge Loop - we got a bonus day where it was in the 50s when I got off from work.  I drove straight to the parking spot and had a great time walking CRL.  I have a goal now of trying to do that once a week with the goal of walking the entire thing after work once time changes and the days get longer. 


I titled my walk this way because when I'm on uneven, loose terrain or going downhill I walk like a toddler, but when I speed up and try to go faster I look like an old person rushing to the bathroom.  It's kind of funny.  I had to hustle towards the end of my walk because dumbass me left my regular glasses in the car and the sun was dropping below the ridgeline in places.  

I stopped several times to look around and take pictures, and a few times I stopped to let runners go past.  It was a tremendous day.  I hope that Tuesday might be warm enough to go again.  We will see.  I can always layer up - it's not at all like riding where the wind on your face makes you colder.  My aunt wants to join me so that will make it more fun!  Stay tuned.

 Meanwhile I'm heading to Blacksburg today for the final Virginia Tech Women's Basketball Game of the season.  We had a game Thursday night; I was pretty tired Friday, Rode Zwift for 30 minute yesterday before heading to a 2 y/o's birthday party...  Just a crazy, busy week.  Hope everyone enjoys another rainy Sunday

Last Saturday: MTB on the GW and Roads again - Honestly it was fun - went to Kennedy Park again then meandered my way to Lick Run GW at Countryside Park. Kennedy Park is peaceful with several paved sidewalks that you can ride back and forth (up and down slightly). Last Sunday: Hiking on Mill Mountain - started on Ivy Road, went up the old road to Big Sunny (Car Trail) to the neighborhood, back down to Crystal Spring Trail - it was fun - the old road was tiring as it's all up hill.  Big Sunny was ok except I had forgot what a muddy mess it gets on the one spot under the power line and of course it's a steep little Pitch.  I made it carefully!  The trail itself weirded me out in a few places which is stupid because I have ridden it hundreds of times.  I guess my perspective is much different now.  Walking back down through the neighborhood wasn't too bad.  My quads tend to not like downhills, but we made it.  Crystal Spring is a mostly flat trail so ...

The follow-up that became the pre-op appointment

This piece needs to go backwards Monday came and just like any Monday I was dreading the day. Nonetheless this was the hand I was dealt. We arrived at the clinic. Waited our turn. Soon we were in our room to wait some more. My poor stomach was in knots. My best recollection of the visit is that Jesse was an unhappy as us with what we were seeing on the CT scan.  In fact he looked mad. As he suspected the top part of my hip (femoral head and neck) was anteriorly rotated so the bone fragments indeed were not aligned. There was over 1.5cm of difference in them, and their best guess was maybe I had 20% bone to bone contact. Without more bone touching healing would be delayed tremendously and might not ever occur.  In that case, I might not ever walk again. In order for me to make the most well informed decision J sent Dr. S in to talk to me. I was truly on the fence about what to do until Dr. S came in. Toileting and The Rubber Chicken

So once it was decided I could get up and to the bedside commode or to a chair I was happier. I wasn’t a fan of bedpans- it was a struggle then I’d pee too much. Yea I think my first NA (Brooke) was over me. I was so sorry!!! It sucks as a healthcare provider to know sort of what they were thinking. She constantly joked about having to change my sheets so much. I decided humor was the best thing I could do. I can say we probably laughed too much and inappropriately at times. I’d like to think I wasn’t a pain in the ass. Brooke quickly got used to me and my OCD need to wash my hands. Each time she would exit she would do her hand hygiene then grab a glove and squirt hand sanitizer in it for me. She was wonderful about doing anything for me. She helped make sure my phone and iPad stayed charged, that I always had ice water (girl that's why I pee'd so much), but she wasn’t there 24/7.
