Trails and a ride report...

I had a pretty good week this week.  I was able to walk every day at lunch at work plus one night of "exercise," a Zwift ride, a "hike", then this weekend, I did go hiking up the trail nearest my house and today got in a ride on my Cx bike.

I wish I had more time for riding, but I'm finding that it's probably doing me as much good just to get the walking and hiking in.   Now is the time of year I get restless sitting and spinning on the trainer, but I can foresee that being a necessity one or two evenings this week.  I'm already planning an after work walk/hike on Tuesday.  I don't like riding after work right now because traffic gets stupid and I'm just not fast enough or confident enough to stay out of the way, so Zwift will probably be the answer.

I am still struggling to figure out what to do for my glutes and abductors to get them stronger.  I probably should do some more stuff with my resistance bands.  At this moment, I'm honestly tired and don't feel like doing anything else.  My ride today was on my Cx bike and took me a bit farther away from home.  I also challenged myself to climb Lick Run GW. I made it - it felt good to climb up it.  I just kept a steady cadence.  Next thing I knew I was at the top.

I kind of feel like I need to challenge myself a bit more, but feel like the better idea will be to do so with my mountain bike.  I may try to hit some fireroads soon.  We will see.
I enjoyed my hike yesterday - I knew it would be hard because the trail I went on is a bit of a burden to climb and gets steeper at the top.  I was rewarded by the view of the Cove.  One of these days I'll hike on down the other side.  Round trip it will be 4 miles and 2 "giant" climbs.  I'll also have to fork out money for the day use pass.  Chances are I wouldn't get stopped once I pass the sign, but I'd rather be honest about it.

So I forgot to tell you about the trail near work.  One of my coworkers had told my PIC (partner in crime) about it.  Since it finally dried up, we headed over to check it out.  Turns out it's a pretty cool loop trail and from our building to the loop and back winds up being about a 1.3 mile walk.  We really did enjoy it.  This will be on our list quite a bit I think.  On the days we just walk around the exterior of our buildings, we get in about 1.2 miles - there's plenty of options and now that the weather is playing nicer, we are getting out every chance we get.  Great way to spend lunches.
Trail near work!

A lone daffodil welcomes spring!

Start of Saturday's hike.

The view I was after (turn around point)

Will hike down to the boat dock eventually.

It was a beautiful clear day!

The tree that I decided depicts my journey!

Sunday's bike choice.

Hope everyone is enjoying their St Patrick's Day.  Thanks for reading!  I guess people are still reading!

Later!

Busy, but haven't forgotten that I owe ya'll a post or two

I've been busy with holiday stuff... Let's see in the while I've been away from my blog.. I painted 4 rooms in my house, replaced 7 mini-blinds... I've been to Knoxville and back for the Garth Brooks concert.  Overall, it was ok.  I've seen much better Garth shows, but it was cool to be in Neyland at night with all of those people. UT needs to figure out it's ADA plan post show though - that's a joke and a long story.  One that is longer than I have time for right now. Decorated for the Christmas - I'll have to do a separate post about my Lego village. Been to Richmond, VA and back to pick up cakes for my birthday and holidays. Did a birthday bike ride for the first time in 2 years. Hoping to do the annual Christmas Light Tour ride in Grandin on Wednesday - weather permitting. The rain and cold and probably wind will return this week. Anyway, I'll be back to post more soon as oh ya, I signed up for The Appalachian Journey - ...

The ER. Xray and introducing Builder Bob

In walks the ER doctor, “hey, what did you do, where are you from?” I crashed my bike, I probably broke my hip, I whacked my head but never lost consciousness ma’am. She, of course looked at my helmet - a few scratches, small dent but otherwise intact. Yay Giro for making good stuff and yay for a hard head. No headache so that was good. She checked other parts, nope nothing else just hip pain, some road rash on the same, both knees scraped a bit and a scrape on left elbow. During our meeting the doctor shared with me that she was a graduate of VCOM (the DO school in Blacksburg) and that she had done a brief rotation at CRMH where I worked for many years. Her name was familiar but we saw so many residents and students it would be impossible to remember them all unless they stood out for good reasons or bad. My old ER friends may remember her - Jessica Flinchum. She was super nice and friendly. Soon I was whisked away to X-ray by my ER nurse. I expressed to the nurse that I w...

Post op...

So I woke up from a fog around 7pm feeling like I got hit by a truck. I reach down to my right leg because something is stuck to it. Ugh, Foley catheter holder. Well at least I don’t have to worry about how to pee for a while. I gently move my left leg. It’s there. A tad painful, but not nearly what it was earlier in the day. Mom was beside the bed. We talked for a short while before she left to make the 20 or so minute drive back to the campground. I drifted back to sleep. Rubber chicken!!!! Between the Dilaudid PCA, the scheduled Norco, Toradol, etc my pain was well controlled. Upon waking to the blood fairy Sunday morning it was time to start planning how everything was going to work to get home, but first there were goals to getting out of the hospital. The foley was taken out early in the day. That was weird. A first that I really could have went a lifetime without. I managed to eat some pretty decent food. And I laughed as I looked at the dry erase board on the wa...
