Trails and a ride report...

I had a pretty good week this week.   I was able to walk every day at lunch at work plus one night of "exercise," a Zwift ride, a "hike", then this weekend, I did go hiking up the trail nearest my house and today got in a ride on my Cx bike.  I wish I had more time for riding, but I'm finding that it's probably doing me as much good just to get the walking and hiking in.    Now is the time of year I get restless sitting and spinning on the trainer, but I can foresee that being a necessity one or two evenings this week.   I'm already planning an after work walk/hike on Tuesday.   I don't like riding after work right now because traffic gets stupid and I'm just not fast enough or confident enough to stay out of the way, so Zwift will probably be the answer. I am still struggling to figure out what to do for my glutes and abductors to get them stronger.   I probably should do some more stuff with my resistance bands.   At this moment, I...

A ride and many thoughts...

Despite a vicious head cold that I came down with Thursday, I was determined not to let a sunny, 70 degree afternoon get by me.  I headed out on a "goof off" ride from my house.  I cut through some neighborhood streets that I frequently use to avoid main roads.  One of the hills is not too much fun.  I found myself thankful for my old school granny gear!  I rode to the nearby university with the thought in mind that I'd ride loops around their main road.  They don't mind cyclists being there and it's not that busy, so I figured it would afford me a good opportunity to work on climbing.  Well I arrived and found construction fencing blocking my path.  I knew they would be doing this soon, so I wasn't truly surprised.  I rode around in a couple of parking lots, finding that this place is really full of stairs!  I doubled back, knowing I could cut across campus fairly easily on the sidewalks.  I wound up going a different way that I ...

Day 4 of Head Cold from Hell

Things I wish for right now: warm weather no rain no illness to feel at least 85% for more than a week to go hiking to ride my bike I don't call in sick to work, but Thursday afternoon; I told my boss I wasn't coming on Friday.  I rested and watched a ton of basketball all day yesterday.  Today I feel more energetic, but my ear is stopped up now.  Typical for when I get colds.  It will probably be this way now for months.

Damn it weather!!!

WARM UP AND DRY UP PLEASE! I knew I should not have said a word about wanting to hike CRL once per week.  Today, when I got off work it was 39 degrees and the wind was blowing.  Too cold for me, so I headed home.  I will do a Zwift ride then maybe some additional hip strengthening exercises tonight. I had a bit of a realization last night watching an old mtb video of mine...  that is how much I stand up while I'm riding that bike especially on descents.  I guess I hadn't thought about it much until I started watching mtb videos.  SIGH.  Maybe it will warm up enough and stop raining every weekend for me to try to ride outside more. I'm really getting in the dumps about it.  I wanted to go do the shortest Storming of Thunder Ridge on my crash-iversary date, but at this point (less than 11 weeks out) I can't see it being a reality.   I've literally ridden outside 3 times this year (6 total since my crash) - nothing real significant....

So I went back for more Chestnut

Tuesday night found me back on the Chestnut Ridge Loop - we got a bonus day where it was in the 50s when I got off from work.  I drove straight to the parking spot and had a great time walking CRL.  I have a goal now of trying to do that once a week with the goal of walking the entire thing after work once time changes and the days get longer.  I titled my walk this way because when I'm on uneven, loose terrain or going downhill I walk like a toddler, but when I speed up and try to go faster I look like an old person rushing to the bathroom.  It's kind of funny.  I had to hustle towards the end of my walk because dumbass me left my regular glasses in the car and the sun was dropping below the ridgeline in places.   I stopped several times to look around and take pictures, and a few times I stopped to let runners go past.  It was a tremendous day.  I hope that Tuesday might be warm enough to go again.  We will see.  I can alwa...
