Latest adventures

Last Saturday: MTB on the GW and Roads again - Honestly it was fun - went to Kennedy Park again then meandered my way to Lick Run GW at Countryside Park. Kennedy Park is peaceful with several paved sidewalks that you can ride back and forth (up and down slightly).

Last Sunday: Hiking on Mill Mountain - started on Ivy Road, went up the old road to Big Sunny (Car Trail) to the neighborhood, back down to Crystal Spring Trail - it was fun - the old road was tiring as it's all up hill.  Big Sunny was ok except I had forgot what a muddy mess it gets on the one spot under the power line and of course it's a steep little Pitch.  I made it carefully!  The trail itself weirded me out in a few places which is stupid because I have ridden it hundreds of times.  I guess my perspective is much different now.  Walking back down through the neighborhood wasn't too bad.  My quads tend to not like downhills, but we made it.  Crystal Spring is a mostly flat trail so I wandered along it without too many worries.  It's a neat place to be when the leaves are gone because you can study the roof and backside of RMH.  HA.  Enjoyed the hike for sure and will probably go back to do more.  I'm afraid of being on some of the other trails as I know how stupid cyclists can be and I can't bail out fast enough if it's the wrong person.  Plus I have to watch how and where I step!

This past week was odd: it felt like all I did was work - I know that I did my exercises (not as many as in the past - will do better this week).  Yesterday I decided I wanted to do a group ride on Zwift so I could earn a new "kit" - I thought it was going to be 18 miles........um, it ended up being 25 and took me an hour and 41 minutes.  I wasn't about to stop, so I just kept pedaling.  It was not easy those last 20 minutes or so because the ride ended up on a climb.  UGH!!!  I can't stand and pedal yet so sitting that long is not fun and tiring.  Feeling it today, so yea it's a good thing I don't have a ride planned.  Alas, it was good and I will jump in on another group ride soon.

Busy, but haven't forgotten that I owe ya'll a post or two

I've been busy with holiday stuff... Let's see in the while I've been away from my blog.. I painted 4 rooms in my house, replaced 7 mini-blinds... I've been to Knoxville and back for the Garth Brooks concert.  Overall, it was ok.  I've seen much better Garth shows, but it was cool to be in Neyland at night with all of those people. UT needs to figure out it's ADA plan post show though - that's a joke and a long story.  One that is longer than I have time for right now. Decorated for the Christmas - I'll have to do a separate post about my Lego village. Been to Richmond, VA and back to pick up cakes for my birthday and holidays. Did a birthday bike ride for the first time in 2 years. Hoping to do the annual Christmas Light Tour ride in Grandin on Wednesday - weather permitting. The rain and cold and probably wind will return this week. Anyway, I'll be back to post more soon as oh ya, I signed up for The Appalachian Journey - ...

Day 4 of Head Cold from Hell

Things I wish for right now: warm weather no rain no illness to feel at least 85% for more than a week to go hiking to ride my bike I don't call in sick to work, but Thursday afternoon; I told my boss I wasn't coming on Friday.  I rested and watched a ton of basketball all day yesterday.  Today I feel more energetic, but my ear is stopped up now.  Typical for when I get colds.  It will probably be this way now for months.

The ER. Xray and introducing Builder Bob

In walks the ER doctor, “hey, what did you do, where are you from?” I crashed my bike, I probably broke my hip, I whacked my head but never lost consciousness ma’am. She, of course looked at my helmet - a few scratches, small dent but otherwise intact. Yay Giro for making good stuff and yay for a hard head. No headache so that was good. She checked other parts, nope nothing else just hip pain, some road rash on the same, both knees scraped a bit and a scrape on left elbow. During our meeting the doctor shared with me that she was a graduate of VCOM (the DO school in Blacksburg) and that she had done a brief rotation at CRMH where I worked for many years. Her name was familiar but we saw so many residents and students it would be impossible to remember them all unless they stood out for good reasons or bad. My old ER friends may remember her - Jessica Flinchum. She was super nice and friendly. Soon I was whisked away to X-ray by my ER nurse. I expressed to the nurse that I w...
