Knee pain, slow your role and riding inside....

This week was one of those weeks that fretted me too much.  Was walking at work and had a sharp, stabbing pain in my left knee.  It was painful to take a step, but managed to finish the inside loop at work.  Sat on the couch that night and iced it.  After that I took a slow, deliberate walk at work then very, gently spun on the trainer (Wednesday).  Friday walked from my office to the outer edge of the parking lots.  This is where I watched 4th of July fireworks from last summer.

Was really hoping this three-day weekend would bring nice weather so I could go outside and ride; but nonetheless - we live in the rain zone.  It's Sunday, 34 degrees, we've had rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain on/off all day.  It rained yesterday too.

Zwift has become my obsession this weekend.  I found a "rehab" ride to do on Saturday that is designed for people recovering from injury or new to Zwift/riding.  I really enjoyed it.  I stayed in a gap for a while then rode with two guys from Canada before I finally tired and dropped back.  I was trying to stay ahead of the sweep and barely did.  Got inspired on the flats and along with a few others chased the main pack down, got in front of the leader for a few minutes then that was the end of me. I ended up riding about an hour total yesterday.

Today I couldn't find a group ride that suited my abilities around the time I wanted to ride, so I did one of my custom workouts.  It was enough to work up a sweat and keep my heart rate up for a bit.  This is good for me right?  :)  The distance sucked because my route went up a mountain.  :(

I don't supposed y'all care about my Zwift character, so I won't share those pictures.  I did rewrap my bars on my bike that I keep in the trainer.  I've done a better job with this, but it's been a while.  Hopefully this stays in place for a bit.  My old tape had worked it's way loose and I had bare bar on the left side.

Maybe tomorrow will bring decent weather - have to make trip to the store tomorrow, and it will be too muddy to go hike anywhere.  I really have no idea what the forecast is.  They never get it right, so why listen?

Meanwhile...  getting close to time to fix dinner....  Hope everyone is finding plenty of adventures and fun!!!  I'm incredibly bored; but trying to focus on enjoying Zwift and getting my exercise in. I really look forward to adventuring outside again.  I did get some flat pedals to consider using on my road bike.  I'm thinking I might put them on my cross bike and try it soon on the road since it's a bit smaller frame than my road bike - might be a good idea??  Dunno!  We will see.

Busy, but haven't forgotten that I owe ya'll a post or two

I've been busy with holiday stuff... Let's see in the while I've been away from my blog.. I painted 4 rooms in my house, replaced 7 mini-blinds... I've been to Knoxville and back for the Garth Brooks concert.  Overall, it was ok.  I've seen much better Garth shows, but it was cool to be in Neyland at night with all of those people. UT needs to figure out it's ADA plan post show though - that's a joke and a long story.  One that is longer than I have time for right now. Decorated for the Christmas - I'll have to do a separate post about my Lego village. Been to Richmond, VA and back to pick up cakes for my birthday and holidays. Did a birthday bike ride for the first time in 2 years. Hoping to do the annual Christmas Light Tour ride in Grandin on Wednesday - weather permitting. The rain and cold and probably wind will return this week. Anyway, I'll be back to post more soon as oh ya, I signed up for The Appalachian Journey - ...

The ER. Xray and introducing Builder Bob

In walks the ER doctor, “hey, what did you do, where are you from?” I crashed my bike, I probably broke my hip, I whacked my head but never lost consciousness ma’am. She, of course looked at my helmet - a few scratches, small dent but otherwise intact. Yay Giro for making good stuff and yay for a hard head. No headache so that was good. She checked other parts, nope nothing else just hip pain, some road rash on the same, both knees scraped a bit and a scrape on left elbow. During our meeting the doctor shared with me that she was a graduate of VCOM (the DO school in Blacksburg) and that she had done a brief rotation at CRMH where I worked for many years. Her name was familiar but we saw so many residents and students it would be impossible to remember them all unless they stood out for good reasons or bad. My old ER friends may remember her - Jessica Flinchum. She was super nice and friendly. Soon I was whisked away to X-ray by my ER nurse. I expressed to the nurse that I w...

Post op...

So I woke up from a fog around 7pm feeling like I got hit by a truck. I reach down to my right leg because something is stuck to it. Ugh, Foley catheter holder. Well at least I don’t have to worry about how to pee for a while. I gently move my left leg. It’s there. A tad painful, but not nearly what it was earlier in the day. Mom was beside the bed. We talked for a short while before she left to make the 20 or so minute drive back to the campground. I drifted back to sleep. Rubber chicken!!!! Between the Dilaudid PCA, the scheduled Norco, Toradol, etc my pain was well controlled. Upon waking to the blood fairy Sunday morning it was time to start planning how everything was going to work to get home, but first there were goals to getting out of the hospital. The foley was taken out early in the day. That was weird. A first that I really could have went a lifetime without. I managed to eat some pretty decent food. And I laughed as I looked at the dry erase board on the wa...
