Derailed by a pesky bacteria, but I'm back...

I guess I enjoyed my three rides last weekend a little too much.  The hours combined with the inability to stand up and pedal plus not enough water intake likely caused me to have a bladder infection.  BAH!!!!   Ah well, the miracle that are antibiotics took care of it for now.  I figured I'd give "the region" a week off, so riding may resume tomorrow (Monday).  Can't win for losing sometimes.  Oh well.  None the less I decided to get out and enjoy the 60 degrees before the winds came roaring to town.

I decided this morning that since the Parkway was closed I'd use it to loop in a hike.  I parked off of Yellow Mtn Rd where it crosses under the parkway, walked UP (see elevation profile) the parkway to the old Roanoke Mtn Campground, looped the side that is closed, then headed to the other loop.  From there I intersected the Chestnut Ridge Loop and took it back to
the car. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and the little bit of trail that I did has me hungry to go hiking.  I think when it dries up, I'll try then entire CRL (it's 5.4 miles). I noticed I could walk a bit of a faster pace today, but my stride shortens when I do.  I also notice that any "steep" pitch throws me off and is a bit harder.  My hip doesn't hurt when I hike/walk, but there's one place where my glute muscle is sore.  I halfway wonder if it's rubbing where there's not enough bone yet?  I don't know.  It's not hurtful to the point I want to stop so I will just keep going.   I'll add pictures from my hike, but if you're my friend on other social media platforms you've probably seen them.  The difference here, is I'll tell you what I was thinking when I took the picture.

By the time I got home from the grocery store after my hike the winds had arrived in earnest.  We had already gotten a 56mph gust at the airport.  I won't sleep good tonight worrying about my neighbor's tree that hangs over my roof...

This always hurt me riding, so I didn't expect it would be easy to walk.

This turned out pretty amazing.  I wasn't even trying.

Road to the old, non-maintained side.

I've never noticed the water fountains before.

I guess they are usually more hidden by weeds, etc.  Or I rode by too fast.

Path between fountains, any bets that the water line is under it?

Glad it was dry...  I bet this would be slippery.

Last Saturday: MTB on the GW and Roads again - Honestly it was fun - went to Kennedy Park again then meandered my way to Lick Run GW at Countryside Park. Kennedy Park is peaceful with several paved sidewalks that you can ride back and forth (up and down slightly). Last Sunday: Hiking on Mill Mountain - started on Ivy Road, went up the old road to Big Sunny (Car Trail) to the neighborhood, back down to Crystal Spring Trail - it was fun - the old road was tiring as it's all up hill.  Big Sunny was ok except I had forgot what a muddy mess it gets on the one spot under the power line and of course it's a steep little Pitch.  I made it carefully!  The trail itself weirded me out in a few places which is stupid because I have ridden it hundreds of times.  I guess my perspective is much different now.  Walking back down through the neighborhood wasn't too bad.  My quads tend to not like downhills, but we made it.  Crystal Spring is a mostly flat trail so ...

Day 4 of Head Cold from Hell

Things I wish for right now: warm weather no rain no illness to feel at least 85% for more than a week to go hiking to ride my bike I don't call in sick to work, but Thursday afternoon; I told my boss I wasn't coming on Friday.  I rested and watched a ton of basketball all day yesterday.  Today I feel more energetic, but my ear is stopped up now.  Typical for when I get colds.  It will probably be this way now for months.

Blue Ridge Marathon - Volunteer time...

Will post more later, but sharing what I posted on the BRM Facebook page. Gonna put this here and hope the individuals see it. To the lady with the past mastectomy running the colorful lymphedema sleeve - WAY TO GO! To the runner with the med port and I swear it looked like O2 - BRAVO! And to the man with the ACL brace who still has the hobbled gait- WAY TO GET IT DONE!!! It hit me as I stood there cheering you on that we may be injured, but we don't loose our spirit. Your fight and determination did not go unnoticed. I'm so impressed, and you have provided me a bit more motivation to continue working hard in my journey back from a hip fracture. SO IMPRESSED WITH EVERYONE TODAY, but those three particularly stood out to me.
